SEXXY Paragraph draft

In our year 12 English class, we have discussed the purposes of using SEXXY paragraphs.

In the film, the Silver Linings Playbook, the aspects of Sound and Music were paired effectively.

We see this when David O. Russel (the director) uses different musical tones to show the effect on the character's expressions. For example, the music starts off as uplifting, bright, and cheerful but then changes to a dull and uncomfortable tone when Pat sees his mother staring above him. The director encourages this to show that music can change the way we feel depending on the different tones they use. This can also be demonstrated with sound as it was used throughout the film. In the first scene when Pat, Doloris, and Danny are driving, there are cars honking, wheels screeching, and people yelling. O. Russel does this to show what's happening on screen to create tension, excitement, and energy. It is also great for the audience and the characters because it's heard by both ears.

The director's purpose was to portray both outcomes as the same. Music had a way of telling the audience what kind of film it will be and sound made it feel like we were there with them, which made us very confused as to what was happening. With sound, the director uses both diegetic and non-diegetic sound to bring it to life. It created a wave of curiousness and anxiousness from the audience. This was done to bring back music because it was always left in the background. O. Russel changes that when Pat is trying to do better and asks if he could go to the library to read his ex-wife's syllabus books. Once Doloris gives Pat “the ok” look we then get a glimpse of the city. The music becomes louder and more dramatic because we are leaving the first scene and jumping into the next. The director's job with music was to understand the character's story, setting, and emotions which can bring out how serious their performances are.

This allows the audience to recognise that Sound and Music have a huge impact when put together. It engages the audience to feel close with both aspects because it shows the emotions and performance of these characters with music and different tones. Such as, picking certain sounds that can be visibly heard and different choruses/tones in music that can indicate to the audience what is happening. The audience then gets the feeling to respond back with a greater feeling because of the heavy melodies in the background.

L2 English - Matching the three videos

 Video 1:

Focus length is the distance from the centre of the lens to where the image is in focus. Focal length determines the field of view.

Fixed focal length - also known as prime lens, have a higher quality glass lens because its specialist for just one focal length.

Variable focal length - the lens are able to adapt more to a zoom lens, because its able to zoom in and out.

A digital camera is like a data storage for devices like tapes, cards, or disks. A cinematographer creates the shot list with the director. They plan how everything in the screenplay will be captured visually. The camera operator controls the camera and frames the shots. The camera operator uses a tripod (also known as "on sticks") for static shots. If there needs to be a moving shot, the operator uses a handheld camera or attaches one to a dolly. They also use a device called a steadicam, which allows a shot to be smoother than a handheld camera but not as smooth as a dolly. The person that manages all these equpitment and sets up the cameras is the first assistant camera. They work under the camera operator
