Hard Meterial
I came to metal because I didn't like the teachers bossing me around in home economics, and I thought I would try metalwork for this semester. I wanted to try something that I haven't done. The first class we had was gentle just getting to know each other and knowing what some safety signs are and what they represent. On week 4, we got to work in the workshop for the first and Mr told us the rules in being in here. It was difficult at first but we kept trying and we nailed it as Mr says. He hates it when we call him Mr so we have to call him by his name. After we were finished our work we got to spray paint it, I painted mine gold. I should have cleaned it up cause there was still dust and little bits of metal around it that made the lumps more visible. I found it fun-ish but it could have been more fun. Mr gives us little saying about when we get older.

My project/Coat Hanger
For the past couple of weeks, we started a new project that would get us through most of term 3 and 4. We used many different tools to help create our masterpiece. This is my final piece.
The materials we used were;
We used this file to file down our work to get it the desired shape for the base and hook
Emery Cloth- Used to get your work clean and shiny, Get the engineers blue off, scuffs marks etc
Vice- Used to clench you work so it is easier to hacksaw, file etc.
Welding Torch- Used to heat up the metal ready to bend the hook part ready to rivet onto our base
Rivet- Used to bind two pieces of metal together. So the hook and the base has a strong stable bond and there was no way it would come loose
Ball Pein Hammer- Use to smash the rivet flat and create a nice flush surface.
Spray Paint- Used to color the metal to the colour of your liking
Hacksaw- Used to cut the metal to make your job easier by cutting down the file time to half of what is would have taken if you done it only with a file
Drill- Drill the holes for the rivets and the countersink etc.
Engineers Blue- Used to see the lines easier, Make them easily visible to file to or cut.
Scriber- To make nice strong bold lines you can see on the metal before you put the engineers blue on.
Engineers square-Used to get accurate lines on your work, no line crooked

Did We Land On The Moon?
3 facts why it's a hoax:
-there are no stars in the sky. Because there is no atmosphere on the moon there should be thousands of stars present.
-In video footage of the landing, the American flag is moving. There is no atmosphere on the moon so there is no wind. The only way the flag could wave is if the footage was shot on earth.
-A big question facing the NASA team planning the Apollo 11 moon landing was what would the moon’s surface be like-would the lander’s legs touch down on the firm ground, or sink into something soft? The surface turned out to be solid, but the real surprise was that the moon had a smell.
3 facts why it's real:
-The moon's surface reflects sunlight, and that glare would have made stars difficult to see. Also, the astronauts photographed their lunar adventures using fast exposure settings, which would have limited incoming background light.
-when the flag was pushed into the ground, the action of the ground, the action of the astronaut would have made the flag move.

Microscopes
A microscope is an instrument used to see objects that are too small to be seen by a naked eye. Microscopy is the science of investigating small object and structures using such an instrument. Microscopic means invisible to the eye unless aided by a microscope.
Different types of microscopes. There are several different types of microscopes used in light microscopy, and the four most popular types are Compound, Stereo, Digital and the Pocket or handheld microscopes. Some types are best suited for biological applications, where others are best for classroom or personal hobby use. Outside of light microscopy are the exciting developments with electron microscopes and in scanning probe microscopy.
Both plant and animal cells are eukaryotic, so they contain membrane-bound organelles like the nucleus and mitochanodria. However, plant cells and animal cells do not look exactly the same organells since they have different needs

The Guitar
Acoustic guitars have large hollow bodies with a soundhole just below the strings. ... As a result, the body of an electric guitar does not transmit and amplify the sound of its strings when they are strummed. If you strum the strings of an electric guitar that isn't plugged in, you'll barely be able to hear any sound
2. Find three musicians that are famous for playing the guitar
-Kevin Costner
-Slavan Bilic
-Ryan Gosling
3. What kind of musicians ensembles can guitars feature in
Some ensembles blend the sounds of a variety of instrument families, such as the orchestra, which uses a string section, brass instruments, woodwinds, and percussion instruments, or the concert band, which uses brass, woodwinds and percussion

PPE (Personal Protection Equipment
PPE stands for personal protection equipment. PPE means any or appliance designed to be worn or held by an individual for protection against one or more health and safety hazards.
THREE TYPES OF PPE
PPE can be considered in the following categories, based on the type of protection afforded by the equipment: Respiratory protection - for example, disposable, cartridge, airline, half or full face. Eye protection – for example, spectacles/goggles, shields, visors.

Testing for protein - the Biuret test
Aim: to test if a sample of food contains protein
Method:
1. Place about 2 ml of the sample into a test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide
2. Add 5 drops of copper sulfate.
3. Shake the test tube gently from side to side
Results: If the solution remains blue, then no protein is present. If the solution changes to a purple color then protein is present in the sample

Metal - safety signs
Prohibitive - Forbidding or restricting something.
Hazard - Something dangerous
Mandatory - Must do
What is a hazard sign?
These yellow triangular signs indicate the presence of a special hazard. A hazard is something you do but can undo it. It is something that is dangerous and can cause death.
What is a mandatory sign?
The blue circular signs indicate a mandatory requirement or instruction that must be carried out. mandatory is a must-do sign
What is a Prohibited sign?
Red prohibited signs indicate an action or activity that is not permitted.
Give three examples and explain where you would most likely see them and what action you would take.
1. At construction places where it would likely be dangerous. If it was a high building there would be a hazard sign with a high building
2. Where earthquake damages have been.
3. If there's a puddle on the floor people could slip and hurt themselves.

Questions -
1. Have you ever been injured in the workshop?
2. Have you tried working with the safety clothes?
3. Have you worn overalls and was it comfortable?
This is my safety sign that I will be creating
It says 'Wash Your Hands' which will be handy in the workshop. If your hands are dirty just go over to the tap.
